Summer Action Plan by GVMC

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation-GVMC has come up with an action plan for the coming summer for supplying water in the city.
GVMC has decided to spend Rs 2.75 crore for ensuring adequate water supply during the summer months.

GVMC Commissioner M.Hari Narayan said that the corporation will take up repairs of all the existing hand-pumps and water pipelines. The department is also about to construct 170 new bore-wells in various parts of the city.

Additional 22 tankers will be hired by GVMC for the summer season to supply water to the extreme point places of the city which will be making nearly 115 trips to those areas.

Commissioner has asked the people to set up rainwater harvesting pits in their residences. "We are making sure that every house has a fully-functional rainwater harvesting system. Due to the extended dry spell during the northeast monsoon, the groundwater levels have decreased in the city’’ he said.

There are about 7,935 bore-wells in the city. Repair of the existing hand pumps would be undertaken and spare parts for these will be bought for Rs 45 lakh," he added.

The GVMC has also planned to construct disable-friendly toilets in 60 schools in the first phase and renovate water bodies in the newly-merged villages in its limits.
