Numbers of women was seen waiting for their turn at the PPI booths. 3729 booths were set up in the district and vaccine doses of 5.80 lakh were made available.

The event was organised on the eve of the National Immunisation Day, which is observed on 28th January.

Polio drops would be administered on January 29th and 30th as well for those who have not covered on Sunday. The Polio drops would be administered at the Chief Ministers Health centres in GVMC limits for three days.

As a part of the drive, more than 17 crore children of less than five years across the country will be given polio drops to sustain polio eradication from the country.

India was declared polio-free on 27 March 2014. Despite India being polio free, it has made cross border surveillance stringent.

Polio vaccination is being carried out at international borders and is a must for people travelling to polio affected countries.

According to WHO data, in 2016, Pakistan reported 20 wild poliovirus cases while Afghanistan saw 13 cases. The WHO has also said that international travellers carry the risk of spreading the virus.

More than 17 crore children of less than five years across the country will be given polio drops as part of the governments drive to eradicate polio from the country.
